Alison is equally as fascinated by print design as knit design. Having studied print and knit at Glasgow school of art as well as designing picture knitting pullovers whilst working in the mills, she is unable to make a distinction between the two disciplines. Being able to focus productively on both means that can effectively combine them and develop a mixed media range of cushions comprising print and knit textured designs. Ann Maryon is presently developing the printed ideas into intarsia with Swiss darned details. These will be offered as knitting patterns.
In order to generate a sustainable cash-flow and facilitate the development of the knitting/crochet facet of Highland Crafters, Alison and her husband James have decided to put some of her energies into developing and marketing the cushion range. Alison has been working on a print range for the last 4 years and it’s great to see how these designs are readily becoming interior pieces that cater for every taste and individual style.
Our art cushion range is inspired by the nature and essence of the scenery which defines our Highland landscape. The idea behind the range is to embellish your sofa with art. Our cushions can be mixed and matched with plainer varieties. The two size options available will be either a 16×16” or an 11″x20″ cushion. You can order the square cushions in velvet suede and the rectangles and square cushions in satin finish. They can be provided with or without a luxury duck feathered infill. We also plan to stock a luxury premium range which is made- to-order only. Discounts will be provided, but are dependant on the number of cushions purchased at any one time. Buying a set will provide the ultimate in interior decoration for any room.
The graphic print leaf was inspired by a frozen leaf found on the beach at Rosemarkie. Alison photographed it and screen printed it onto paper. This was later printed onto fabric. This scatter cushion range would best compliment a back sofa with modern graphic decoration- a simplistic minimalist look for the contemporary home. There will be the option to purchase one or a collection of square and rectangle cushions printed using an assortment of imagery with coordinating backs.
Our spring buds range is inspired by the delicate buds when opening form beautiful ornamental Japanese floral patterns. These designs would compliment a neutral coloured room in soft beiges or mid greys.
The printed grasses collected from the nearby country side were intaglio printed and then digitally rendered. The details seen represent the original field grasses that we often see blowing in the wind and glistening in the sunshine.
Not forgetting the pretty floral range that would adorn a French-styled room where white is the predominant colour. This collection echoes summertime flowers which are fruity and floral. Striped backs allow for mix and matching combinations.
