Hi everyone,

While we are still in the midst of reorganising our website and brand, we at Highland Crafters would like to take this opportunity to raise awareness for our friend Lynn Doherty.

Lynn Doherty is a contemporary artist based in the Scottish Highlands. She attended Cumbria College Of Art and Design in 1991 and then went on to complete a degree in Social Sciences at Glasgow Caledonian University. Lynn has been working as a Community Mediator and Counsellor for the past 10 years.

However painting is her first love, and moving to the Easter Ross area in 2005 helped to reignite a long-held passion for capturing dramatic landscapes and seascapes, through imaginative painting techniques.

The picturesque beauty of the Highlands provides limitless opportunities for Lynn to utilise her creative instinct to its full potential.

She uses colour and texture as a basis to capture the movement and power created by the ever-changing weather, applying a wide variety of techniques including combining acrylic paints with oil pastel to achieve strong contrasts. Lynn especially enjoys painting the beaches around the Fearn Peninsula; from the dark rock pools found at Shandwick, to the sweeping sands at Nigg.

As an artist with big ideas, Lynn takes great delight in any chance of rendering her work on a large scale format, using large brushes and tools which involves expending a great deal of energy which she hopes is accurately reflected in her pictures. Having recently chosen to change job role’s and work part time, this has afforded her the opportunity to dedicate herself more fully to her craft and allow time to further develop her studio, as well as continued evolution as a contemporary Scottish artist.

Here are a selection of images, created by Lynn and available to view along with many others via the Gallery section of her website. SANYO DIGITAL CAMERA lynn docherty blog 3 lynn docherty blog 4 lynn docherty blog 5 lynn docherty blog 6 lynn docherty blog 7
