Hi everyone,

We are sorry for the long hiatus in posting and updating all of our valued supporters with news of the continuing development of the Highland Crafters brand. But rest assured, Alison has been as busy as ever trying to create an extensive and unique print range as well as embracing innovative methods of production using new and exciting materials.

She feels strongly that this is the right time to allow Highland Crafter followers into her multi-coloured world of textile and print design – to allow you all to see the development of new ranges and concepts. Having studied print and knit at the Glasgow School of Art there is just no separating them. The textile continues to inspire the print and vice versa.

The team at Highland Crafters strives on to create a lifestyle brand offering an exclusive collection of products ranging from knit/crochet patterns as well as the made to order/small stock service enabling the patterns to be sold as a collection.  The promotion of the textile range focuses on the colours and textures of the landscape in all its forms and facets. Alongside this, the print range was extended and further developed to be featured across new and existing formats – from candles to cushions and wall hangings, (even coasters!), using a combination of original and photographic imagery.

It hasn’t been an easy challenge continuing to build the crafting empire at the same time as holding down a full time job in art /design education.  Alison stands by her belief that if she remains motivated and continues to put in the time and stay focused on her venture, Highland Crafters has the potential to become a lucrative business for all concerned.

WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT.  FOCUSING ON THE RETAIL SHOP.

The range is making excellent headway. We continue to coordinate and finalise our seemingly infinite variety of patterns in collaboration with makers, designers, testers and editors at Highland Crafters.  Alison will be linking up with the woman’s rural in Ross-shire Scotland with a view to finalising patterns and developing new ones.  She believes that the skills and knowledge of these extremely talented makers need to be nurtured and recognised. There is undoubtedly nothing more satisfying than your hard work being appreciated by others – a pattern where your story is told, you are credited and receive a commission for your hard work and dedication.

The patterns are currently being sold on Etsy with a view to expanding into printed format and kits.  Book publishing is also another area under consideration to increase future revenue.

Alison has also been incredibly busy working on the presentation of patterns, designing with makers, producing product photography and not forgetting the website; which requires hours of endless alterations and effort on the part of her husband James.  Her close friend Jane Dewar continues to work on the social media side.  Joanne Thom a trained journalist continues to offer her time to edit stories for the blog. At this time we are developing a multitude of stories to keep our many supporters interested in the Highland Crafters’ tale.  Please keep posted.

We would like to extend a big thank you to all the editors, makers and designers on the pattern range who have dedicated their time and support to problem solve and edit the range of patterns that are now on Etsy for sale.  All efforts are much appreciated and are contributing to moving the project forward.
